Welcome to the Pacific Northwest
Investment Research Challenge! As participants in the PNIRC, prospective financial analysts are
acquiring the technical skills and ethical best practices from seasoned and
accomplished industry mentors. In this inaugural year, seven university teams are competing by
crafting an equity research coverage initiation report on Fisher Communications, Inc. After a two-month effort, the reports submitted by seven teams were
graded in January. The top four teams (Seattle University, Washington State University, UW Bothell, and UW Seattle) became finalists and made oral
presentations at the local challenge final on February 5, 2010 in front of a
panel of expert judges. The local winner that emerged in the local final is from
University of Washington, Bothell. This team has now advanced to the Americas Challenge
in NYC on March 17-18, 2010. The winner of the Americas Challenge will compete
in April 2010 with three other regional champions in Hong Kong. The PNIRC project presents the perfect opportunity for the mentors to
give back to the community, for the student teams to acquire hands-on
experience and a network of contacts, and for the CFA Society of Seattle to reach out to
college campuses. This website will evolve as the inaugural Challenge winds down and 2nd
PNIRC preparations begin in the next few months. Please follow, participate, and volunteer!
